On 12th December during a session of the Council of The Self-Government of the Vilnius Region, the rate of a special donation dedicated for performing state functions from the budget of The Self-Government of the Vilnius Region for 2012 was made precise.

By virtue of the Council’s resolution additional funds were assigned for social benefit and compensation for the 4th quarter of 2012. The rates of assignation for social services and social support for pupils were also specified during the meeting.

A donation of specified purpose was increased of 1 mln 570 thousand Lt.

The deputy manager of the Department of Education, Zofia Ryżowa, during her speech was encouraging the people present to participate in the “Christmas with a book” action, whose aim is to equip school libraries with new books. Over 1000 schools have prepared a list of the most—needed ones. Between 19th November and 6th January in „Vaga”, „Pegasas” and „Knygų namai“ bookstores there will be special book shelves. Books that are elements of the action will be marked with a special label and they will be 20% cheaper.

You can also give books directly to schools. The list of most—needed titles can be found here: http://www.inmedio.upc.smm.lt/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=231&Itemid=1172
