“Nowa Awangarda Wileńska” will organise 18th century poetry readings

New Vilnius Avant-garde

A poetry meeting called “Popołudnie z Wieszczem” (afternoon with a bard) will be taking place next Saturday at Adam Mickiewicz Museum in Vilnius.  It is organised by a poetical group from Vilnius called Nowa Awangarda Wileńska (new Vilnius avant-garde). Its aim is to bring 18th century poetry back to life.

The event will be the first of a series called “Zimowe Spotkania Poetyckie w Wilnie” (winter poetry meetings in Vilnius). “The series is organised by the group together with the director of Adam Mickiewicz Museum, Rimantas Šalna.” Says one of the leaders of the group Marzena Mackojć from PL DELFI. “The meeting places will change. Our aim is to bring back the spirit of Romantic Poetry in the cradle of Polish Romanticism.”

The meetings will take place during the next two months. “The highlight of the meetings will be a bilingual poetry reading which we are organising together with the Lithuanian Association for Writers.” adds Mackojć. The last meeting will take place in January 2013.

During “Popołudnie z Wieszczem” poetry will be read by a new generation of poets from Vilnius: Dariusz and Jarosław Kaplewscy, Marzena and Agnieszka Mackojć, Elżbieta Czerniawska and Tomasz Tomašiunas. Apolonia Skakowska and Aleksander Sokołowski will be the guests of honour. The meeting will start at 1pm.
