On Friday (October 5) in Druskininkai will take place a meeting of Polish and Lithuanian intellectuals. The organizer is the Jerzy Giedroyc Forum for Dialogue and Cooperation.

The meeting will be devoted to the Polish – Lithuanian relations, which recently has cooled significantly. “These were empty promises that have not been kept. Our relations have returned to the 1994, before signing the agreement on friendship and cooperation between our countries and they tend to deteriorate even more” – you can read in a special statement of the Forum.

The basic idea of the Forum formed a few months ago is that about the relations between the two countries not only talked politicians. “We suggest you to stop being passive observers of the Polish-Lithuanian relations. Let’s make together the Jerzy Giedroyc Forum which will become a platform to help establish direct contacts with the Lithuanians and the Poles. At the same time it will contribute to the implementation of the views of the late intellectuals throughout the region”- he writes later in a statement.

In the meeting will be attended former President of Republic of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus, Ambassador of Poland to Lithuania Janusz Skolimowski, Ambassador of Lithuania to Poland Loreta Zakarevičienė, MEP Ryszard Legutko, editor-in-chief of “Uważam Rze” Paweł Lisicki, editor-in-chief of “15 min.” Rimvydas Valatka, philosopher Alvydas Jokubaitis and historian and chairman of the Jerzy Giedroyc Forum Alvydas Nikžentaitis.

The meeting will last until Sunday.
