W. Tomaszewski: They are thinning our electorate

Waldemar Tomaszewski – leader of the Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania (AWPL) – states that the Lithuanian authorities do all they can to prevent the party from gaining a substantial number of votes in the parliamentary election in October. They try to weaken the Polish electorate by manipulating boundaries of electoral districts in the Vilnius Region.

In connection with the coming parliamentary election, representatives of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) came to Vilnius in order to assess the pre-election situation in Lithuania. During their meetings, the issue of deterioration of the voting rights of the Polish national identity was raised.

Raul Muresan and Robert Krimmer – representatives of the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) – met with leader of the Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania Waldemar Tomaszewski and mayor of the Vilnius Region and deputy leader of AWPL Marija Rekst. The Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights is the principal institution of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) dealing with the protection of human rights.
W. Tomaszewski stressed that the meeting took place on the initiative of OSCE due to the fact that “the current atmosphere of preparation to the election is not good and is becoming more and more complicated.”
