In this week Vilnius city council voted for changing status of Gymnasium named Adam Mickiewicz in Vilnius to Gymnasium with 1-12 classes. School would like to implement ecological way of education.

Vilnius Vice Prime Minister Edita Tamošiūnaitė remained that in spring municipality changed education program by introduction 5-8 classes. Ministry was requested for accreditation ecological way of education.

Ministry marked that accredited in 1998 school don’t need to be accredited again. If municipality agrees with new way of education should change status of Gymnasium by it’s own.

According to Valdas Benkunskas, member of previous coalition for education, permission for implementation 1-12 classes to Gymnasium named Adam Mickiewicz will be disadvantage for Gymnasium named Szymon Konarski.

“This is price which liberals  and Remigijus Šimašius have to pay for joining Polish to coalition. Instead of schools optimization based on number of students and other objective criteria, schools which last 12 years are established. This schools will not have more students, though exceptions are made. Those exceptions distorts all education system.” – said Benkunskas.
