Wedding at the harvest festival in Mościszki

After harvesting it is worth to talk about old customs. Time flies, seasons are changing rapidly. When we look at it from the perspective of the viewer we do not always see all the details. Daily work and effort very often are unnoticed.

Residents of the village Mościszki, located near Vilnius, took part in the event called “Wedding at the harvest festival.” Festival started playing polo and then spoke historian Albert Volk, who presented the history of the village Rubionka.

The hosts declared: “Today along with the early dawn we started harvest festival and before the supper we have to celebrate wedding…”.

Singing started. The vocal instrumental band “Vilnius Colors”, under the direction of Lucyna Własenko, welcomed the hosts of the country cottage: “Open the doors widely, we are bringing you a crown of pure gold” – shouted haymakers, the role played by the band “Truskaweczka” from Mickun. Choreography to “Rolender” prepared Beata Bużyńska. Effects of work on the hosts’ hands gave “Mościszczanka” band directed by Joanna Liksza and a band of Krzysztof Stankiewicz “Lord Christopher Robin Band” from Zujun.

Music played during the “wedding” said about the life in Vilnius. Guests wished all the best. Young people were dancing their first dance. It was a waltz which wowed everyone. The next dance was the melody, which was a form of thanks to the guests. A “Happy Birthday” song was sung grandly.

The guests of the event were: wicemer of the Vilnius Region Government Mr. Czesław Olszewski, Secretary of the Vilnius Region Government Renata Cytacka, Councillor of Vilnius region Teresa Dziemieszko, Head of the Department of Culture, Sport and Tourism, Mr. Edmund Szot, mayor of Ławryska county Mr. John Krasowski. On behalf of the entire team we would like to express our gratitude to the leadership of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Administration of the Vilnius Region Government for financial support for the event “Wedding at the harvest festival.”
