The Vilnius County Administrative Court Sided with the Local Government

The Vilnius County Administrative Court sided with the Vilnius District Municipality. The representative of the Vilnius County government requested to remove the requirement that the heads of educational institutions have a good knowledge of the language of national minorities.

The necessity for the heads of educational institutions in the Vilnius district to know the national minorities’ language is lawful – says the court’s decision.

The court rejected the motion of the government representative who sought to oblige the mayor of the Vilnius district to remove from the description of the required professional skills the condition about the knowledge of Polish or Russian language.

According to the rules of qualification requirements, the heads of educational institutions should speak one of the European Union languages—English, French, or German—at the B1 level.
