The intermediate exam in Polish will be taken into account during the Matura Exam

“11th graders who took the intermediate exam in Polish last year can rest assured – its result will be included in the high school Matura Exam in this subject”, the Ministry of Education informed our newspaper in a written comment.

Ministry of Education, Science and Sport informed on its website that this year the intermediate exam session for eleventh-graders will have a pilot character. It means that the obtained results will be taken into account to the state final exam grade, on request of the 11th graders.

-According to the intermediate exam in Polish nothing will be changed- its results will be taken into account. Graduates could obtain maximum 40 points for the intermediate exam. In June they will take the state final examination in Polish, and they will be able to “bring” these 40 points to the exam- “Kurier Wileński” was informed in a written message sent from the Ministry of Education, Science and Sport.

Students of Polish-language schools in Lithuania were the first to test the model of the two-stage Matura Exam in the 11th and 12th grades. For the first part of the Matura Exam in Polish (the so-called intermediate exam) the eleventh-graders has already been taken last year. The second part of the Matura Exam is waiting for this year’s 12th graders.

-Students took the intermediate exam (in Polish- the author’s footnote) last year, and in this year they were able to take it again, to improve their grades. 41 students took advantage of this opportunity. The Ministry’s communications department informed us that students will receive a higher grade in the intermediate exam

Polish is also crucial when recruiting for university

For the first time this year, Polish will be taken by Polish-language schools graduates on the Matura Exam in Lithuania. This exam’s grade will be taken into account also when recruiting for university. This year, during the recruitment for universities or colleges, crucial will be the average from at least 3 chosen and passed exams: all state exams in Lithuanian, Maths and selected third state exam, which can be also the exam in Polish.

As Erika Vaitkūnienė, the moutspeaker of Association of Lithuanian Higher Education Institutions for Centralised Admissions (LAMA BPO) assured us, the result from the state exam in Polish will be taken into account during the recruitment for Lithuanian universities.

-The grade in Polish may be included as a grade form the third subject contributing to the overall competition result, its coefficient is 0,2. Any subject in which the state exam is taken in the current year may be included as the third subject. The most favorable grade from the state secondary school leaving exam in any subject in the secondary school leaving certificate is taken into account, so it can also be the grade from Polish – assured Erika Vaitkūnienė in a written comment for “Kurier Wileński”.

11th graders learned that this year the intermediate exams in individual subjects were of a pilot nature only after they had taken them. The novelty implemented this year – a session of intermediate exams included as part of the Matura Exam – contained significant shortcomings, and some of the tasks were of poor quality, as admitted by the outgoing Minister of Education, Gintautas Jakštas.
