The Commission cannot punish Russian channels for violations
The Lithuanian Radio and Television Commission detected violations in retransmissions of two Russian channels that showed reports on Lithuanian guerrillas and affairs on 13 January. The Commission adds, however, that there is currently no scope for limiting the activities of these channels in Lithuania.
The Commission determined that in the program “Time” recorded in Latvia, the TV Pierwyj Bałtijskij channel was spread “untruthful, slanderous and inciting to hate information about Lithuania and Lithuanian guerrillas”.
This is the first violation made by this television over the last year. The Commission may impose sanctions on the broadcaster when he commits at least three violations.
Meanwhile, in the program “Review of the week” of NTV Mir television, it was stated, i.e. that Lithuanian guerrillas took part in the Holocaust and murdered innocent civilians. According to the commission, this is the second violation of this broadcaster during the year.
Earlier due to violations, Lithuania followed restrictions on retransmission of some Russian television.
