Equal Opportunities Ombudsman’s Office: Pre-school compensations only for the rich

Equal Opportunities Ombudsman Agneta Lobačevskytė claimed that compensations for the children attending private pre-schools are discriminating on the social level, because they are beneficial only for the richer families. She also proposed the Vilnius local-government to change this procedure.

As Lobačevskytė states, the decision regarding Vilnius was made after a government representative made a complaint regarding the Vilnius Municipality. The Office launched an independent investigation in order to analyse the situation in Kaunas and Klaipėda.

According to Lobačevskytė, only the richer families can benefit from the 100 euro compensation. Such compensation does not resolve the problems of parents that cannot afford the private education of their children.
