Michał Mackiewicz rewarded by TVP Polonia

Ceremony of awards given by TVP Polonia for contribution to Poland and Poles was held in the Royal Castle in Warsaw. Among this year’s laureates is the president of the Union of Poles in Lithuania, member of Lithuanian Parliament Michał Mackiewicz.

TVP Polonia gives prestigious Awards ‘For contribution to Poland and Poles outside the country’. Laureates are people who contributed to Polish culture, art, education, sport, and especially to popularizing Poland and Poles all over the world. Laureates are given statuettes with the image of Fryderyk Chopin.

This year the Award ‘For contribution to Poland and Poles outside the country’ was given to:

Aleksandra Podhorecka – Polish activist, President of the Board of the Polish Educational Society (Polska Macierz Szkolna) which supports Polish education in Great Britain,

Michał Mackiewicz – president of the Union of Poles in Lithuania, member of Lithuanian Parliament,

Professor Jan Miodek – Polish linguist, head of the Institute of Polish Philology at the University of Wrocław, member of the Linguistic Committee of Polish Academy of Science and the Council for the Polish language, promoter of the knowledge about Polish language, also in TVP Polonia in the program ‘Polish@Polish Dictionary’ (Słownik Polsko@Polski),

Gen. Mieczysław Bieniek – general of Polish Army, former NATO Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Transformation who led army in Syria, North Sahara, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Turkey, Iraq and Afghanistan,

Czesław Lang – road racing cyclist, Olympic silver medalist, twice a medalist of Road World Championships, many times a Polish champion, organizer and the Director of the Tour de Pologne,

This year’s Special Award ‘For Contribution to Poland and Poles outside the Country’ was given to a politician, third term member of Polish Parliament and former PM of Poland, Member of the European Parliament, and in 2009-2012 its President, professor Jerzy Buzek.

The Award Ceremony featured a concert of Waldemar Malicki and The Silly Philharmonic under the baton of Bernard Chmielarz.

Broadcast of the ceremony of Awards ‘For Contribution to Poland and Poles outside the Country’ will be transmitted by TVP Polonia on 2nd of May at 8:50 PM.
