In the first reading, the Parliament approved of the EAPL’s amendments concerning the Bill of the return of the land. On 19th December, the Parliament will reconsider the project, when the government prepares a suitable legal analysis.

The EAPL proposes to give back the undeveloped land in towns, which is rented to different legal persons, to their legitimate owners. Then the leaseholder would have to meet with an owner to set whether to pay for rent or to buy the land.

Rita Tamašuniene, one of the initiators of the idea, claims that after enacting the amendments, the economic climate will improve. “Currently, copartnerships and people renting the public land are in very unspecified situation, because they are dependent on the officials” – explained the MP.
