More than 60 representatives of Lithuanian science and culture, as well as activists Sąjūdisu signed the appeal on dismissal AWPL from ruling coalition. In the letter lodged to the authorities, it was written that the actions of AWPL are against Lithuania.

One may read in the letter that the recent public actions and speeches of AWPL’s representatives desecrated the memory of fighting and casualty people, who fought for peace and independence of Lithuania in January in 1991. What’s more, the encouragement of ignorance of courts’ sentences and laws discredit Lithuania internationally.

In the appeal, it’s stated that the representatives of AWPL coming out in the Sejm and European Parliament say untrue information on legitimate situation in Lithuania. When they often repeat the word of “discrimination”, they slander the good name of Lithuania, which is democratic country.

The letter was addressed to President Dala Grybauskaitė, Premiere Algirdas Butkevičius, the chairman of the Sejm Loreta Graužinienė, Country Defense Minister Juozas Olekas and the chairman of the Sejm of Committee of Security and Defence Artūras Paulauskas.

„People have right to have their own opinions and I don’t think that the letter will have an influence on the work of the ruling coalition. On the other hand, we all haven’t done enough to solve the issues of the minority in Lithuania” – commented Gediminas Kirkilas, the deputy of the chairperson of the Sejm.

„I consider it to be the appeal of inhabitants. In the letter, political party is mentioned, not the whole Polish minority in Lithuania, who have their own issues and an ability to defend them. I would criticize the coalition for their permission connected with finding the solution of offensive issues, and they still haven’t found any. The political confrontation, which occurs among the society, is not good, and wise, compromising solutions cannot be proposed on the basis of it. It is reflected in the civic appeal” – said Petras Auštrevičius, the deputy of the chairman of the Sejm.
