25 years ago Poles of Vilnius District Municipality actively started forming circles of the Social and Cultural Association of the Poles in Lithuania, which then united in sections of the Vilnius Regional  Association of Poles in Lithuania. Today (17th November, 2013) the circle from Buivydžiai celebrates the quarter of a century of its activity.

On the occasion of the 25th anniversary there was a ceremony organized in Buivydžiai, opened by a solemn mass in the church of St. George.

After the service, there was a holiday concert in the local Community Centre, during which many bands performed, e.g. „Wilenka”, „Bujwidzianka”.

Many honourable guests came to the Buivydžiai circle of the Union of Polish Writers jubilee, e.g.

Waldemar Tomaszewski, the Member of the European Parliament, the leader of Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania, the chairman of Vilnius Regional Association of Poles in Lithuania and  Rita Tamašunienė, the starost of parliamentary fraction of Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania.

The ceremony was organized by the organizing committee under the leadership of Marian Naruniec.

In the autumn, 1988, within the framework of bottom-up initiatives, circles of the Social and Cultural Association of the Poles in Lithuania started to be established, and then they united in its Vilnius Regional Branch. In April, 1989, the Association of Poles in Lithuania was founded.

The Board of the Association of Poles in Lithuania made a decision that the main celebration of the jubilee of the quarter-century will be held on 3rd May, 2014. However, members of the board of the Vilnius Regional Branch during a meeting (taking place on 30th November) settled that anniversary  events will be continued from November 2013 until the end of January 2014.

The main celebration of  the Vilnius Regional Branch will be held on 22nd February, 2014.

The Board pledged to financially support commemorative events of particular circles.

What is scheduled in the programmes of the celebration are, among others, acknowledgments of the support of people who helped from the beginning and of those whose contributions for the circle are extraordinary and exceptional.

Ceremonies will be interwoven with performances of many Vilnius bands, whereas each circle will extend the programme with additional elements at its own choice.
