Aušrinė Burneikienė: Lithuania signs but fails to meet international contractual commitments

Aušrinė Burneikienė, an ombudsperson of Equal Opportunities, declared that Lithuania is very keen on signing and ratification of any international conventions and directives, but fails to perform contractual commitments.

‘What I do not like is that Lithuania is very quick to sign any conventions and directives, because the country then looks well on an international arena. However, we later avoid meeting the commitments. There are amendments to acts passed which are contradictory to the demands of those directives and conventions,’ said Burneikienė in an interview for ‘Lietuvos žinios.’

“This way we simply make ourselves look ridiculous and do not meet what is demanded of a democratic country,’ Burneikienė added.
