© Ewelina Mokrzecka

The Supreme Administrative Court of Lithuania predicated that bilingual inscriptions of street names in Šalčininkai District are inconsistent with the law. Decision of Supreme Administrative Court is final as portal delfi.lt informed.

Local government of Šalčininkai District argued that bilingual inscriptions are hanged on private properties and the local government can’t decide to remove them. The Court has been informed, that 80 percent of inhabitants are Poles.

The Supreme Administrative Court hadn’t find the argumentation convincing and ordered clerks of local government to remove bilingual signboards. The court added that Law on the State Language unequivocally says that names of streets and places have to be written in Lithuanian language.
