Last week, during the match between FK Polonija Vilnius and Žalgiris-3, one of the Polonija’s supporters threw a flare on the field. Polonija Vilnius has been punished for the fan’s offence by the Disciplinary Committe of the Lithuanian Football Federation.

‘What should I say? As hosts of the game we are responsible for keeping order on the pitch one hour before and after the match. It is possible to appeal according to the regulations, but the club will not do it’ – Stefan Kimso, the president of FK Polonija Vilnius told zw.lt. He stressed that the fans will be talked to in order to prevent similar events in the future.

FK Polonija Vilnius is to pay a fine of 2000 litas; moreover, the supporters will be banned from attending the four following matches. The Disciplinary Committee stressed that the sanctions can be more severe if a similar incident should happen in the future. A derby match of the 12th round between Polonija Vilnius and Żalgris-3 took place on the 14th of August. Polonija Vilnius won the game.

Unfortunately, the match didn’t go off without a hitch. In the second half a firecracker was thrown from the stand of the Polonija Vilnius’ supporters, burning a piece of artificial turf on the field. The culprit – a citizen of Poland – has been detained by the police. Vilma Vensolvaitiene, the president of Żalgris, has told lrytas.lt that the stadium needs repairing. She couldn’t tell if the damage can be repaired quickly and if the match between Żalgris and FC Salzburg will take place on the 29th of August.
