In Vilnius’ district Rasos are renovation works under the mausoleum of Józef Piłsudski and soldiers who died in the Polish-Bolshevik war. Planned is replacement of a central and side stairs leading to the mausoleum. At the side stairs will be two new flowerbeds. Newly laid path surface is leading to the Mausoleum “A mother and the heart of her son”. In plan is also installing a proper lighting.

The need to organize the most important for Poles part of Vilnius’ Rasos was signaled by the Social Committee for the Care of Old Rasos with Alice Klimaszewska. During a meeting with Janusz Skolimowski, the Polish Ambassador in Lithuania was decided to carry out such work. To such initiative joined not only the Polish Embassy in Vilnius, but also the Council for the Protection of Struggle and Martyrdom. These institutions took care of the financial side of the project.

As said to “Wilnoteka” Alicja Klimaszewska, “we wrote a letter to the authorities of the city of Vilnius with a request to install a monitoring system in this part of Rasos which is renewed. Repair will cost a lot of money and it will be harm if vandals will be able to destroy it with impunity. On Friday we are going with this letter to the Vilnius government.”

In June, unknown perpetrators of vandalism destroyed the tombstone of Mausoleum “A mother and the heart of her son”. Both sides of the statue were painted orange Gediminas columns. Police still could not determine the perpetrators. If the city wished to install cameras, it would be much better to fight with the perpetrators of such manifestations of hooliganism.
