The Self-Government of the Vilnius Region – one of the three self-governments providing an excellence condition of emergency fire rescue
On 8th February this year, a meeting of the management of the department was held with the heads of the Fire Rescue Guard of self-governments and employees of self-governments on the activities of fire crews at the Department of Fire Rescue and Fire Management
During the meeting, the director of the department, a general of internal service, Remigijus Baniulis, acquainted the heads of the Fire Rescue Guard of self-governments with the results of the activities of forces of fire rescue from the last year, as well as with the optimisation of fire crews of the Fire Rescue Guard of self-governments.
The Deputy Director, V. Kurkulis, conducted a review of emergency, conditions and opportunities for fire crews of the Fire Rescue. According to V. Kurkulis, the state of preparations and possibilities of fire crews differs significantly – a range of 270 to 2.5 thousand inhabitants falls for one firefighter. A serviced territory in different localities of the country varies fourfold; other indicators differ even up to eight times. In the opinion of the Deputy Director, all services, with the exception of Skuodas and Druskienniki, have the opportunity for reduction, because a part of crews does not bring any benefits. According to V. Kurkulis, last year, only three self-governments provided an excellent state of emergency fire rescue: Kalwaria Self-Government, Self-Government of the Święciański Region, as well as the Self-Government of the Vilnius Region.
During the meeting, methodical recommendations, concerning the training of fire rescue crews of self-governments were presented; a method of funding of a fire service was also discussed, as well as the criteria for the forces to respond to emergency fire communication and the development of digital radio connection in Lithuania.
