The Conservatives want to impanel a parliamentary group for the national minorities.

A special parliamentary group “3rd of May” is to be set from the initiative of Andrius Kubilius, member of a conservative party. It derives its name from the important historical event of Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.

Parliamentary group will be dealing with preparing long-term, broad political strategy concerning national communities in Lithuania. The proposition of impanelling the group was submitted to the authorities of Viktoras Pranckiečius’ Government on Thursday.

The call was signed by politicians from various formations, for instance: Žygimantas Pavilionis, Arūnas Gelūnas, Gabrielius Landsbergis, Gediminas Kirkilas, Juozas Bernatonis, Rasa Budbergytė, Rita Tamašunienė, Mindaugas Puidokas, Arvydas Nekrošius, Ingrida Šimonytė.

Kubilius emphasizes, that the concerning geopolitical situation is an incentive to set up such a group.

“Taking part in the governmental elections I chose Vilnian-Šalčininkai constituency consciously, I wanted to become acquainted with the economical, cultural, and political situation of this region. I also wanted to find an effective way to solve various problems of the Vilnius Region. We had our political programme of national communities prepared in the government elections. In order to create a long-term strategy it is necessary to set up an appropriate parliamentary group”- said Kubilius.
