Waldemar Tomaszewski – candidate for the President of Lithuania

Today, the Central Electoral Commission of the Republic of Lithuania has registered Waldemar Tomaszewski, the leader of the Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania – Christian Families Alliance, and a member of the European Parliament, as a candidate for the President of Lithuania.

In the presidential elections in 2014 Waldemar Tomaszewski achieved a very good result, gaining 9% support (110 000 votes) nationwide and won decisively in the Vilnius and Šalčininkai region, even with the incumbent president Dalia Grybauskaitė.

Waldemar Tomaszewski also won in many districts in the Trakai, Švenčionys, Širvintos, Zarasai and Vilnius City region.

These results showed that not only representatives of national minorities, but also Lithuanian nationals voted for the chairman of the Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania.

No representative of a national minority in the countries of the European Union has ever achieved such a high electoral result as Waldemar Tomaszewski.
