There will be a new Lithuanian kindergarten in Suwałki?

On the forthcoming Wednesday (15th August) Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis is going to pay an official visit to Poland where he is going to meet the Lithuanian community. The head of the government will visit Suwałki, Puńsk and Sejny.

In Suwałki and Sejny, the Prime Minister and the members of the local authorities will discuss the situation of the Lithuanian minority in Poland. “Together with the president of Suwałki we will talk about the possibility of creating a Lithuanian kindergarten. The local community has made an appropriate appeal” – explained the vice-chancellor of Deividas Matulionis government.

Together with Polish politicians Skvernelis will also discuss the issue concerning the Lithuanian education in the Republic of Poland. Recently in Poland, the requirements of appointing classes for the members of national minorities have decreased, hence, the Lithuanians in Sejny want to keep the four Lithuanian schools.

“We honestly want the number not to decrease and the conditions of the Lithuanian origin citizens of the Republic of Poland to be as good as possible” – added Matulionis.

In Poland, there are living around five thousand Lithuanians.
