Active Poles from the Vilnius Region among the awarded

The Awards of the Lithuanian Grand Duke Gediminas were given in the former residence of the president Antanas Smetona, which is located in the Ukmergė District. Among those awarded for the outstanding performance in 2014 were also active Poles working in local governments of the Vilnius Region: Vilnius District, Šalčininkai District and Trakai District.

During the awards ceremony, four representatives of Šalčininkai District and three representatives of both Vilnius District and Trakai District were awarded.

Representatives of all three local governments were awarded in the category for the “Achievements in developing citizenship”. In Trakai District the winner was the councillor of Trakai District Henryk Jankowski; the director of Neris Regional Park Audronė Žičkutė was also awarded, and a congratulation letter was given to the starost of Kamionka in Šalčininkai District Jan Miłoszewicz.

The award for the “Achievements in developing social infrastructure” was given to the director of Nursing Home in Prudziszcze (Vilnius District) Bronisław Juozėnas, who takes care of well-being of those living in nursing homes and improves the quality of services provided to people with disabilities. A congratulation letter in this category was also given to the nurse from Eišiškės (Šalčininkai District) Danuta Sokołowska.

The award in the category for the “Achievements in developing human capital” was given to the director of Trakai Education Center Nijolė Lisevičienė, the head teacher of Eliza Orzeszkowa High School in Biała Waca Mirosława Szostak, and congratulation letters were given to a famous educationalist, literary historian, poet, guide and the staff member of Władysław Syrokomla Museum in Borejkowszczyzna Józef Szostakowski, and the chairperson of the Cultural-Artisanal Association of the Trakai Land Dominika Dubauskaitė.

The award for the achievements in developing financial-production capital was given to a farmer from Šalčininkai District Czesław Moroz.

The Award of the Lithuanian Grand Duke Gediminas was instituted in 2003 by the Trilateral Commission of Vilnius County in collaboration with partners. The awards are given to entrepreneurs, representatives of the sphere of culture and education, and other community activists who achieved best results in different spheres of activity in the Vilnius Region.
