In the Council on Culture national minorities are to be represented by the person born in Estonia

The candidate for a new member of Lithuanian Council on Culture is Pille Veljataga. She is to replace one of the members of the Council, Stanisław Widtmann, who has been appointed for the office of Lithuanian attaché on energetics in Warsaw.

Pille Veljataga was born in 1951 in Tallinn. She has been living in Lithuania since 1957. She studied history and art theory in Vilnius. Since 1990 she has been working in the Institute of Research on Culture.

Pille Veljataga’s candidature needs to be approved by the Government. Presently, the Council on culture is made up of its chairperson, specialist for culture, Daina Urbanavičienė, composer Vidmantas Bartulis, art scholar Rūta Janonienė, theatrical critic Vaidotas Jauniškis, librarian Rima Maselytė, architect Kęstutis Pempė, artist Saulius Valius, specialist for culture Remigijus Vilys, photographer Stanislovas Žvirgždas and literature scholar Gintautė Žemaitytė.

The member of the Council on Culture can become a person who has had achievements in the field of culture or art and has at least 5-year experience in the realisation of cultural projects.

The Council on Culture is responsible for funding programmes and projects concerning culture, art and other endeavours. It monitors their course, controls the budget form the Fund for Culture Support, grants scholarships for culture and art creators, organises researches on culture and art, coordinates their course.
