AWPL in Lithuania refute the accusation of Lithuanian Intellectuals.

“All indicates that it is another letter by „Vilnija”, nationalistic organization, who only prove themselves in attacking Poles, taking every single opportunity. No arguments were included in the letter: it consist of insinuations only and the insinuations have nothing in common with reality. Six organizations claim that it breaks human rights in Lithuania, which was strongly presented by the Forum of Polish School’s Parents in Šalčininkai Region. Relating to the accusation by authors of the letter which is connected with alleged illegal election of parliamentary representatives of AWPL in Lithuania, it must be stated that it is absurd and it has been repeated by “Vilnija” activitsts for a year and a half. The coalition did not take part in the last elections, but AWPL in Lithuania and it proves that AWPL was a separate party Lietuvos lenkų rinkimų akcija, on election lists. Consequently, it should be stated that the authors of the letter (or the author K. Garšva) should gain qualifications on right to vote” – it was written in the declaration of AWPL leader, Waldemar Tomaszewski.

„It is possible that the authors of the letter do not like the fact that AWPL is in the ruling majority. Their participation is very useful for Lithuania. We want to recall that AWPL initiated many amendments, which were approved by most of the parliamentary representatives. The amendments are important for every Lithuanian. I would like to mention a few of them, they raised financial on local road by ¼, created thousands new job places as a result of positive change for tourist sector and initiated social justice. None of AWPL representatives has got embroiled in corruption, the party work honestly for Lithuanians. Voters, among whom there are more and more Lithuanians, are aware of it appreciate it. On the other hand, a few of the authors of the letter ran for parliament. What’s more: four nationalistic parties got into coalition and they did not poll even 1%. It is seen that they are rejected by the society and they try to recall about their existence by such actions as writing such letters. Many authors of the letter are the representatives of former Soviet academy nomenklatura, who were important people during the former system and then, probably for financial reasons, changed their mind-set, and a few of them even nationality” – MEP comments.

“I’m not surprised with this letter, which stirs up ethnic discords, as it is the aim of some people. However, I was surprised by the fact that Nijolė Sadūnaitė (the member of resistance movement), signed the letter. She has not changed her mind-set and is a believer – as Poles in Vilnius. It is possible that she either did not read the letter carefully or signed it for polite reasons – Poles in Vilnius are willing to cooperate with Nijolė Sadūnaitė and many others. However, they exposed and still expose former Soviet academy nomenklatura, who mastered chameleon art. I would like to point, once more, that Poles demand what they owned in 1991, when they fought for independence, what had been valid for 19 years and, in 2010, was canceled by the party V. Landsbergisa” – Tomaszewski said.
