Help us find information about churches in Vilnius!

© Autoriaus nuotr.

A student of cultural heritage studies at the Vilnius University has asked the team of PL DELFI for help.

My name is Dariusz Lewicki. I’m a student of cultural heritage studies at the Vilnius University. I’m gathering information for my master’s thesis about the no longer existing Church of the Sacred Heart (Kościół Serca Jezusowego). Its construction started in 1913 in the Pohulanka street in Vilnius (design by Antoni Wiwulski), and the church was pulled down in 1964. I’m also looking for information about a small neo-Gothic church of Divine Providence in Vilnius (Kościół Opatrzności Bożej, which had earlier been a part of the Church of the Sacred Heart) designed by August Klein. The history of these two churches is closely connected not only with the history of the city, but also with well-known people who contributed to the construction of magnificent monuments (like father Karol Lubianiec).

The limited information that can be found in the books makes it difficult to explore the topic. That’s why every piece of information (old photographs, notes, literature, memoirs and stories heard from grandparents or acquaintances, sketches, descriptions of interiors of the churches (paintings, altars) etc.) will contribute to enriching the knowledge about these churches.

If you can help me, please contact me by e-mail: lewickidar@gmail.com or call me: 8 600 610 93. Thank you!
