The social project called “Marzenia dzieci 2012” was carried out for the first time in Lithuania during Christmas. 27 local governments, together with  Vilnius district municipality, took part in this initiative.

The children involved in the project come from the families of social risk. The list of their Christmas present dreams was published on the website: www.vaikusvajones.lt.

Benefactors could choose a present from the list and give it to a child personally or ask someone to give it on their behalf. Another way of helping those children was to transfer money for the present to a bank account of the institution which takes care of a given child. Then, people who worked in this institution used these money to buy presents and give them to children.

Social workers from Vilnius district municipality collected 202 Christmas cards with children’s dreams. 167 dreams came true. Some dreams still have the chance to be fulfilled, despite the fact that the project has ended.

13 districts of Vilnius district municipality took part in the project. These were: Miedniki, Bezdany, Mariampol, Ławaryszki, Pogiry, Rzesza, Awiżenie, Niemież, Mickuny, Suderwa, Kowalczuki, Zujuny and Niemenczyn.
