Traditional New Year’s Concert of “Wilia”

Traditional polonaises and mazurkas, mixed with Christmas carols and forgotten old pieces as well as quite new dances and songs – all that things one can see at the New Year’s Concert of the Polish Folk Dance & Song Ensemble “Wilia”. The concert will took place on the 29th of December at 5 p.m. in Polish Community Centre in Vilnius.

“In the first part the audience will see traditional programme entitled “In the rhythm of polonaise and mazurkas” mixed with Christmas carols and in the second part of the concert “Wilia” will present the pieces that have not appeared for the very long time: songs from Rzeszów, suites of Żywiec highlanders and other pieces as well” – said to PL.DELFI Renata Brasel, artistic manager of “Wilia”.

The rich and diverse repertoire of “Wilia” includes folklore from different parts of Poland, Polish national dances and songs and dances from Vilnius district as well. The ensemble also performs artistic programmes made on the occasion of ensemble jubilees:  historic picture “In the Ogiński‘s Lounge at Dominikańska Street” (50th jubilee) and „The magic world of film music” (55th jubilee).

From the 55 years of artistic activity “Wilia” has played over  1500 concerts domestically and abroad. Moreover, it has brought up many generations of singers, dancers and musicians. Many of them are continuing their careers with new ensembles. Former members of “Wilia” contributed for the creation and directed the ensembles such as “Świtezianka”, “Wilenka”, “Prząśniczka”, “Wileńszczyzna”, “Strumyk”, “Zgoda”, “Sto Uśmiechów” and many others.

Current management of the ensemble: artistic manager – Renata Brasel, dancing group manager – Marzena Suchocka, children dancing group manager – Beata Bużyńska, music band manager – Anna Kijewicz, masters of ceremonies – Agnieszka Skinder and Stanisław Michałkiewicz.
