“Truskaweczka” for children from orphanages

The first frost, slippery roads, blizzards – nothing is able to stop children and teenagers of an artistic group “Truskaweczka” [English: Little Strawberry] from their annual journey through Vilnius Region in the first week of December. It was the fourteenth time that they had visited orphanages in Šalčininkai, Pabradė, Naujoji Vilnia and Vilnius. The children form these institutions received songs, dances, sweets, toys, printers and CDs.

“Such trips are extremely important for the members of our group. They are something more than  regular concerts. It is an opportunity to see how children in orphanages live. We can give them some joy in this magical Christmas time. But it is also an opportunity for our members to get to know each other and find new friends. Such trips teach and unite the members of our group.” said Bożena Czerniewska, a director of the group and initiator of the action.

In order to achieve the main aim of our action we need a financial support which this year we received form the Polish Embassy led by Janusz Skolimowski. We are extremely grateful for that.” added Czerniewska.

The young artists spared no effort during their performance and the audience rewarded them with a round of applause and words of appreciation. The dancers of “Truskaweczka” unanimously admitted that those special concerts were the source of joy for them and hoped that they would be able to visit Vilnius Region next year.
