Poles in the Lithuanian Seimas

fot wilnoteka.lt

The Lithuanian Seimas undergoes the posts allocation. A representative of the EAPL (Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania) will hold the post of the president of one of the committees. Mr. Leonard Talmont is said not only to win this post but also to take the leadership of the Committee on Human Rights. Furthermore, the EAPL will be granted the posts of: the Deputy Secretary General, the Prime Minister of Energy and some others vice minister posts.

During the negotiations on the division of Seimas Committees, the EAPL was particularly interested in the Committee on Rural Affairs and also in the Committee on State Administration and Local Government. However, the Leonard Talmont’s final candidature is aimed at the office of the leader of the Committee on Human Rights. The Committee will vote on the approval of the candidature on Wednesday.

Members of the EAPL have been elected to hold the office in others Committees as well. Ms. Rita Tamašunienė will be working in the Committee on Budget and Finance, Mr. Michał Mackiewicz – in the Committee on National Security and Defence, Mr. Jarosław Narkiewicz – in the Committee on Education, Science and Culture, Ms. Wanda Krawczonok – in the Committee on State Administration and Local Government, Mr. Józef Kwiatkowski – in the Committee on Social Affairs and Labour.

A Polish party has already negotiated the posts of the Deputy Secretary General but its placement will take place later. The most probable candidate for this post is Mr. Jarosław Narkiewicz, whereas Mr. Jarosław Niewierowicz will take the office of the Minister of Energy. Officially, the EAPL talks about him as “one of the candidates”, but so far, his name was the only one mentioned in the talks concerning the Ministry.

At this point in time, have managed to get one ministerial office appointed, and also to have three vice ministers in other Ministries  and one vice minister in our Ministry, which gives four vice minister offices overall. The vice minister offices will probably include: the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture, the Ministry of Transport and Communication or the Ministry of Rural Affairs, but this matter needs to refined.” said Waldemar Tomaszewski in the interview for “Znad Wilii” Radio.
