The European Commission Representation in Lithuania organizes a discussion panel in Šalčininkai entitled “Šalčininkai 2013: carrier and business prospects”. The discussion will take place on November, 21 (Wednesday) at 4 p.m. in the local authorities’ quarters.

Giedrius Sudikas, a spokesman for the commission’s office in Lithuania, said: “What vision of the future do the citizens, local authorities and entrepreneurs hold? Does this unique and multinational region of Lithuania use all the financial possibilities? What function does the EU fulfil? Is it another market, subsidies’ distributor or perhaps the answer for those seeking a better life? Entrepreneurs, scientists and local authorities will attempt to answer the aforementioned questions.”

A local opinion poll indicates that 4 out of 5 respondents believe that the industry in the Šalčininkai Region needs to be bolstered up the most. The conditions for the small and middle enterprises’ development have to be created and improved according to 60 per cent of people surveyed. The viewers believe that the region is a good, but not perfect, place for running a business. Additionally, the majority of those interviewed replied that the tourist potential of the Šalčininkai remains considerably untapped.

Bogusław Grużewski, a sociologist, Jacek Jan Komar, a political scientist, Danas Arlauskas, the President of the Lithuanian Business Employers’ Confederation (LVDK), and Andrzej Andruszkiewicz, the Deputy Mayor of the Šalčininkai will all take part in the meeting.
