The Social Committee for the Care of Old Rasos encourages all helpful people to participate in the cleaning action of Rasos Cemetery. At the same time the collection of votive candles begins. The candles are going to be placed on every grave and lit on All Saints’ Day.

The cleaning action of Rasos Cemetery has been organized for many years but the collection of candles under the banner of “Present Rasos Cemetery with light” is going to take place for the third time. Three years ago, thanks to the contribution of Vilnius and Vilnius Region residents, the organisers received 7,000 candles. Year before, nearly 3,000 candles had been collected. Today, representatives of the Social Committee for the Care of Old Rasos hope for bigger commitment of citizens and ask for help the Polish media in Lithuania,

The organisers encourage students from Vilnius and other surrounding schools as well as scouts to participate in the action. Alicja Klimaszewska, a chairperson of the Social Committee for the Care of Old Rasos, is extremely pleased that students and scouts from Polish schools play an active role in both events. The chairperson reminds all people interested in the action that before going to the cemetery, they have to inform the management of the cemetery that will provide them with all tools necessary for work. Contact: Nijolė 861525887, Wioleta 867372723 or 2656563.

Alicja Klimaszewska notices that 90% of over 19,000 graves has been left without carers so now the Committee and the residents of Vilnius have a duty to take care of the cemetery. It is extremely important to collect as many candles as possible so they can be placed on every grave on All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day. Please, bring the candles to the reception desk in the House of Polish Culture or to the Polish bookshop „Elephas”.
