In “The Political Salon” of the “Znad Wilii” Radio Jarosław Narkiewicz, a member of Lithuanian Parliament, said that the AWPL’s chances in the upcoming elections were very strong. According to the politician, one of the most significant successes of the AWPL members in the previous term of office is the introduction of the Culture Committee.

Crossing of the election threshold is a basic task in the upcoming October elections. “The AWPL’s chances are very strong. Crossing of the election threshold is our basic task. The priority is the victory in single-member constituencies, at least in those where the AWPL won in the previous elections” said Jarosław Narkiewicz.

The AWPL is going to continue their fight for the rights of national minorities. “In our programme there are postulates concerning the national prosperity independent of nationality. We will apply for European standards concerning the education of national minorities, including preservation of the previous educational system, proper study conditions, the right to use the native language, general civil rights. In my opinion, the electorate have noticed our successes in Vilnius, Trakai and Šalčininkai districts and they will encourage them to make a proper decision.” said the politician.

The great victory of the AWPL was the acceptance of the Law on the Cultural Committee. “Last week the Parliament accepted the Law on the introduction of the Cultural Committee. The law was accepted together with our amendments. We demanded that the representatives of national minorities had the right to participate in the creation of the Committee and one seat in the Committee fell to the representative of national minorities. It is the victory of culture in Lithuania because the Committee will have some functions of the Ministry of Education and Science. The ministry will be responsible for the strategy and the Committee will have executive functions.” stressed Jarosław Narkiewicz.
