Construction of a new building for the Vilnius branch of the University in Białystok is expected to start in 2013. Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs, Radosław Sikorski, declared the transfer of money for this purpose.

Students, graduates and teaching staff of the Vilnius branch of the University of Bialystok have been talking about the need for a new building for several years. The new building would increase the attractiveness of the university and would help to introduce new faculties.

Rector of the University of Białystok, Leonard Etel, announced that a plot of land for construction purposes may be purchased even in 2012. The project of this new building is being developed. Construction is to begin in 2013. It is not known yet what will be the cost; the promise of the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs does not specify the amount of money.

Leonard Etel pointed out that this educational institution in Lithuania shall be a showcase of Polish universities abroad. The Vilnius branch of the University of Bialystok is the only Polish university outside Poland. It is located in a rented building, shared by Polish organizations operating in Lithuania. Students can study there on two faculties: economics and informatics.
