Aziewicz: The Lithuanian State does not fulfill its obligations
The source of the tension between Poland and Lithuania is non fulfillment by the Lithuanian part of obligations arising from the treaty, said Tadeusz Aziewicz the chairman of the Polish – Lithuanian Parliamentary Group during the “Polish Radio” interview.
When commenting the words of Dalia Grybauskaitė who said that “ sometimes it is better to take a break instead of fixing something which cannot be fixed”, the deputy stated that such break has become fact for a long time now.
“This break lasts as it is impossible to expect any crucial changes during the election campaign. The government majority had enough time to meet Polish expectations which are very close to those expressed by Polish minority as the tension in Polish – Lithuanian relations is a result of non – fulfillment by the Lithuanian part of obligations arising from the treaty concluded between Poland and Lithuania”- stated Tadeusz Aziewicz.
The deputy also said that he agrees with the opinion of Radosław Sikorski, the Polish minister of Foreign Affairs and it is necessary to wait for autumn elections in order to start more constructive dialogue. The chairman of the Parliamentary Group also said that “after election a new majority in Lithuania elected by both Lithuanian people and Poles will come to life and then it will be possible to discuss actions which could improve mutual relations”.
In Aziewicz opinion the Polish-Russian relations do not influence Polish-Lithuanian relations.
Tadeusz Aziewicz stated that as a son of Wilniuk i.e. the Pole from Vilnius Region he is out of concern for Polish-Lithuanian relations improvement. “it is in my blood to be the son of Wilniuk, the son of Pole from Lithuania. I do understand those relations and personally it is all very said and bitter for me” – said Aziewicz.
